SpeakMyLanguage

Privacy policy

Last updated: 18 October 2026

Your speech is translated on your device. The free edition also connects to Google advertising services. The paid edition contains no advertising SDK.

Who is responsible

SpeakMyLanguage is provided by Jan Evenblij, an individual developer based in the Netherlands, using the name JWH Software. Contact: contact@jwhsoftware.com. This notice covers the free and paid Android editions of SpeakMyLanguage and the support enquiries you send us.

Speech and translations on your device

The microphone is used when you start listening. The app records your speech in its private cache and runs speech recognition and text translation on your device using downloaded models. The app does not upload recordings, recognised words or translated transcripts to Jan Evenblij, Google AdMob or an external AI service.

Temporary audio files are normally deleted when recording and processing end. An interrupted session or abnormal shutdown may leave cache files until Android clears them or you clear the app's storage. Translated messages are held in memory during the app session; the app does not intentionally save a transcript history to permanent storage. The app has no user accounts or cloud transcript synchronisation.

Downloaded models, language/model choices and other settings are kept in app-private storage. You can delete models through Manage models. Clearing the app's storage or uninstalling it removes its local files and preferences. Revoking microphone permission in Android Settings prevents new recordings.

Model downloads and technical information

Downloading models requires connections to Hugging Face and its download infrastructure. These services receive the network information needed to deliver files, such as your IP address, request time and requested file. See the Hugging Face privacy policy.

The app writes local technical timing information such as model ID, language direction, processing duration and memory use to Android's diagnostic log. These log messages do not include recordings or transcript text. There is no separate analytics or crash-upload service added by the app developer. Google advertising diagnostics in the free edition are described below.

Advertising in the free edition

The free edition uses Google AdMob and Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP). The paid edition does not include either advertising SDK and makes no AdMob ad requests.

Google's advertising SDK may collect and share IP addresses, advertising/device or app identifiers, ad and app interactions, and diagnostic/performance information for ad delivery, measurement and fraud prevention. IP addresses may reveal approximate location. The app does not request precise GPS location for ads. Applicable Google advertising partners may process information as explained in the consent message and Google's disclosures.

See Google's Mobile Ads SDK data disclosures, Google's privacy policy, and how Google uses information from partner apps. Google controls its own retention schedules and explains international processing and safeguards in its policy. We do not receive your individual advertising identifier through the app's own code; AdMob may provide the developer with advertising performance reports.

Advertising choices

Where required, UMP requests your choices before advertising requests are permitted. In Settings, Advertising privacy options appears when Google requires an entry point to change those choices. You can revisit it to change or withdraw consent. Whether any ads can be served after a refusal depends on the applicable rules and Google's eligibility checks. Translation remains available if ads cannot load.

Android also provides advertising privacy controls. Google may require consent for device storage or identifiers even for ads that are not personalised. Advertising privacy forms and choices are separate from Android's microphone permission.

Purposes and legal bases

We process information needed to provide the translation service you request. Advertising processing requiring consent is based on that consent. Voluntary support correspondence is used to answer your enquiry and follow up, based on our legitimate interest in providing support. Google explains the legal bases for its own processing in its privacy policy.

Support, retention and service providers

If you email us, we receive your email address and the information and attachments you choose to send. Our email provider is Google Workspace. Avoid including sensitive recordings or transcripts unless needed for your enquiry. Support messages are kept while needed to resolve the enquiry and related follow-up, or longer when a legal obligation or dispute requires it. You can request deletion by contacting us.

Our email and download providers and Google advertising services may process data outside the EEA. Their policies describe the applicable transfer mechanisms. Local app files remain on your device unless you independently share them or use an operating-system service outside the app's control.

Your privacy rights

Where applicable, you can request access, correction, deletion, restriction or portability of personal data, object to processing, and withdraw consent. Contact contact@jwhsoftware.com. We cannot retrieve recordings or transcripts held only on your phone; use Android's storage controls to remove them. You may also complain to the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens or your local supervisory authority.

Security and changes

The app uses Android's app-private storage and encrypted connections for model downloads. No system can eliminate every security risk. Keep your phone secure and consider the privacy of other people whose speech you record.

We may update this notice when the app or its providers change. The date above identifies this version. This page describes the Android app; opening links in your browser also involves the linked website's own privacy practices.
